Why We Focus on Craftsmanship
Why we handcraft our products in Germany
In a world where supply chains are often a black box, we at nordkit want to shed some light. We are proud that most of our products are not mass-produced, but are genuinely handcrafted right here in Germany. For us, handcraft is not a marketing buzzword, but a conscious decision: we want to see what we build, check every seam, have every detail under control, and ultimately ship a product that we can stand behind with a clear conscience.
Handcraft out of conviction, not nostalgia
We handcraft almost all our products, such as camera straps, in small series or as individual pieces, because this is the best way for us to meet our quality standards. When we package a strap, it has passed through our hands, including quality control of seams, connections, and materials. We immediately see if something doesn't fit and then we don't let it go out. This is the advantage of having real people behind nordkit who are personally responsible for each product.
Material selection: short distances, good standards
Not only are the finished products important to us, but also what goes into them. We pay attention to durable materials and try, whenever possible, to work with partners from Europe for short distances, high quality standards, and more transparency. This has three major advantages for us:
-
Quality: High European manufacturing standards.
-
Sustainability: Shorter transport routes and less COâ‚‚ than with materials from overseas.
-
Fairness: We can better understand the conditions under which our materials are produced.
The honest side: Why not everything comes from next door
Transparency for us also means that not every component of your equipment comes from Germany or Europe. Especially very specialized components often cannot be produced locally in small quantities, at least not in a way that price, quality, and availability match. In these cases, we consciously purchase components, sometimes from China, but always with the aim of maintaining a sensible balance of function, quality, and honesty. Our goal is clear: to keep the proportion of local production as high as possible without compromising the functionality of your equipment.
Sustainability for us means: less waste, not more labels
We produce in small series, plan consciously, and do a lot of handwork. This results in comparatively little waste. We try to minimize waste and partially reuse it for smaller details instead of throwing it away directly. For shipping, we mostly use plastic-free packaging and cardboard boxes so that your new gear doesn't arrive in a sea of plastics. In this way, we want to contribute to ensuring that the nature we love to photograph will continue to look the way we love it in the future.
What you can expect from us
When you hold one of our products in your hand, you are holding a piece of our work, our time, and our conviction. We want you to truly feel the difference in haptics, workmanship, and durability, and not just read about it in the product description. If you're looking for gear that is made with genuine craftsmanship, great attention to detail, and a fair, transparent approach, then you've come to the right place.
